Greetings robins! It’s alright. Everything’s fine here in Minnesota. You can come back now. We miss you. I will buy worms at the bait shop to feed you until it’s officially spring. And look! I have a spring dress. Sort of. That’s right, at long last, I actually snapped a few poorly lit photos...

Greetings gophers, meerkats, prairie dogs, capybaras and other assorted small rodent-like creatures who may or may not have been cleared for Friday gobbling during lent. Let’s do a reveal today, shall we? I’ve been calling this my Dynasty sweater. Doesn’t it look like something that Krystal Carrington would have worn? Still wears, perhaps, somewhere...

Greetings kangaroos! I managed to take some grainy, blurry photos last week to show all ya’ll one of my more recent endeavors. Fairly boring stuff, as I’m heavily into making-separates-for-fall-that-I-can-wear-to-work mode. That’s a mode, right? Like, an out of the box, everyone has it mode? Anyway, here it is… I believe I dubbed this...

Greetings you humpy bumpy camels and chimpanzees! Yesterday I showed off my new skirt and sweater and today I’m back with a few more details! First, the portrait collar sweater. This sweater was mostly view C from Butterick 4230 – unfortunately for all you camels, it’s an out of print pattern, but pretty basic....

Alright you adorable koalas. I’m running low on title inspiration. But not on sewing inspiration! I finished not one, but TWO new garments this weekend that make me very happy! A nice, fall sweater and skirt. This was sort of a surprise project. I woke up Sunday morning, thinking about one of the inspiration...

Tahitian treat! (Kwik Sew 3637)

Greetings tropical hermit crabs! I’ve finished my first summer skirt and shirt combo (remember the bolts of cloth I posted the other day?) If any of you guessed the hawaiian-style Amy butler print with the pink and white striped knit, you win a gold star! My master plan, as far as summer sewing goes,...

Then and now… some summer fun for the kid in me!

Greetings pygmy goats! I think I’m a day late, but I decided to play along with last week’s Sew Weekly challenge “Kidding Around” and make an outfit based on a childhood photo of me. I posted the inspiration photo a few days ago, but here it is again with my ‘now’ photo – 1980...

One part pink sweater, two parts black wool.

Greetings chickens! I don’t care if the city says we aren’t allowed and the neighbors are complaining. We’re totally keeping you. So! For tonight’s post, I’m unveiling not one, not even two, but THREE new garments! This post promises to be low on the exposition and high on the visual interest. Just like Pulp...

Christmas sewing. New clothes for mom.

Ah! So, early Christmas is over, gifts have been given and I can post photos of my mother’s Christmas present. Of course, puffed up with cleverness and general silliness, I alluded to this gift in the last paragraph of my recent post on pincushions. I thought I was safe, what with her general anti-technology...

From the vault… Butterick 5348 and 4657 franken-dress. What doesn’t work.

Well folks, I have been a busy bee, catching up on my Lady Grey, but the photographic evidence is not the most scintillating unless you love raggedy seam allowances and orange upholstery fabric, so I’m pulling a pre-blog project out of the vault for a post-game analysis. For vanity’s sake, I’ll post the least-offensive...

Self-Stitched September day nine

Yesterday was yet another day of sewing and errand running. Self-Stitched September earned its keep, forcing me to finally hem a so-so skirt I started months ago. Here’s what I wore: Day nine This skirt is the self stitched part and is made from Butterick 4877, a pattern that is out of print. I...

Full circle skirt, served three ways…

Fifties fever is part of my fall wardrobe plan and I’ve finally finished my version of the menswear-fabric full-circle skirt and bustier look that’s popping up in blogs and the September issue of Vogue.                                                  While my version is perhaps not as bustier-ish as it could be, after seeing the photos side-by-side, I’m more...

Self Stitched September Day 1 – the wheels are coming off the bus

Well! Self-stitched September started off with a bang! I actually spent a majority of my day in what could be loosely termed as ‘refashioned’ clothes – alas, no pictures, but I was in the garden wearing (1) a pair of cut off jeans that I cleverly made cargo and ipod pockets for using the ‘cut...

I really, really don’t want to do this… making my first pair of pants…

OK. This is the part of the fall wardrobe I’ve been dreading. Pants. I’ve tried making pants and shorts a few times and haven’t come up with anything usable. What I’ve done the few times I’ve tried before is to make WAY too many adjustments right off the bat – lengthening the crotch depth,...

Finally finished! The fitted shirt (Butterick 5333)

Well, this seems almost like a let-down after all the muslins, but the fitted shirt from Butterick 5333 is finally complete! And I love it!! Putting together the shirt was a little bit of a pain. The most painful part was probably the fabric, which is a silk/wool blend and very prone to unraveling...
