Finally! A coat for Mr. Bug! Burda 7780

Morning beanstalks and affiliated vegetables! I’m happy to report that after a year-long standoff I have finally conquered Burda 7780 and provided a coat for Mr. Bug so that he no longer is forced to scamper off to work with his poor suit coat sticking out from under his much-shorter Carhart. He not only...

The Negroni shirt–version 1!

At last! Mr. Bug and I managed to get a few snapshots of the finished Negroni shirt! I had to darken most of the images significantly so that the details show a bit more. Also: the secret to getting Mr. Bug to pose… let him play with the hound during the photo shoot!  ...

Men’s shirts. Clearly conceived by loonies…

OK. Perhaps a bit harsh, but I started work on the Colette Negroni today (I know, I know… first I jumped the gun on the Crepe sewalong, and now on Peter’s shirt sewalong…) and I am completely in awe of whomever thought up the crazy way of attaching the yolk. Also, symmetrical pockets and...

Sewing for the man. A muslin.

I pounced on Dan (figuratively, of course) the minute he walked through the door tonight and got him to pose in the muslin for his man-coat, Burda 7780. He insisted on the first pose being the traditional greet-the-dog pose. That dog is a traitor. I love sewing for Mr. Bug. No pattern alterations needed....

Welt pockets. A tale of two tests and some very, VERY bad sewing.

Welt pockets. A tale of two tests and some very, VERY bad sewing.

Work has begun on Mr. Bug’s coat. A simple car coat. With welt pockets. I’m making a muslin and thought it would be a good chance to practice my welt pocket technique. Perhaps “develop” is a more appropriate word than “practice.” I tested two different techniques for a double welt pocket. The first is...

Operation birthday jammies. And labels!

Well! I’ve been on blogging black-out since Thursday while working on my birthday present for Mr. Bug – pajamas. The first man-project of every home sewist, right? The jammies were well received, the fabric was sweatshirt fleece and sinfully pricey flannel coupled with judicious (first time) use of my sewing machine’s embroidery function. Also, with...
