New classes in August

Morning water snakes! It’s raining hounds and hares in Minneapolis and after much wrangling with WordPress I’ve FINALLY gotten my classes page updated with August classes. Whew!

We’ve been doing ‘theme’ months this summer – May was skirts, June shirts, July is the month of dresses and all of our August classes are home dec and accessories sewing…. you know, pillows, tote bags, all that fun stuff! It’ll be fun to be on a totally different track for a month! (Click on any class below to see a description and to register.)

My FAVORITE class that I’m teaching in August is the Zip, Button, Snap class. This is a super quick introduction to pesky zippers, stitching a buttonhole and applying snaps. We make three handy little pouches during the class, each with a different closure. Here’s two of the three I made in the last class – I use the flat one for coupons and it’s awesome-o! The more pudgy one is the home of all my silk thread, thimbles and hand sewing needles.

I’m also pretty excited about two new offerings in August – the Basic Curtain Workshop and Class. A lot of our customers ask about curtain classes so we’ve finally added them! The workshop is an hour and a half session where we’ll talk about design, hardware and other details. Workshop attendees will go home with a materials shopping list so they know exactly what they need to dress up their windows! The next week we’ll hold a Curtain class where students will sew up new curtains. I’ll be covering a basic panel curtain as well as two valance styles in the workshop and class. The Workshop is $25 and the Workshop/Class combination is $65.

Other August offerings on my schedule are the Pattern Workshop which is an in-person form of my Sewing School posts, The Amy Butler Spice Market Tote and Throw Pillows.

AND it’s only July 15th, so there’s still a few more dress classes! My Maxi dress class on the 26th is full, but the No Fuss Knit’n'Cotton tank dress on the 29th still has spaces left. I FINALLY made a sample for the knit’n'cotton dress yesterday and it is really a great dress. Pictures of the REAL dress next week, in the meantime here’s a line drawing. The dress bodice is made from a knit fabric, the skirt from a woven. It’s a great intro to sewing knits!

If you’re in the Minneapolis area come on down and join me for a class! You can see all of my classes here, or check out the Sewtropolis website for a full class schedule. Most of our classes are between $50 and $65 dollars + materials. We give a 10% discount on all materials purchased for a class (yay!) and you can register for all of our classes (except Sewing Essentials) online!

    Hey Patty

I love your blogging style, but the new site is really hard to view on my laptop. I have a screen suitable for viewing films, and your new skiiny font does not show up well. :-(

    Any chance of a change?

    xx

Not in the super, near future! At some point (when I have time) I’ll figure out how to install more fonts and I’ll change then. I’ve got a lot on my to-do list before then, plus, the font passed the all-important ‘mom’ test (i.e., my mom said she could read it which is not the case with all things!)

I’m not sure what a screen suitable for viewing films is? Is it something special? I watch videos on my computer, but I don’t think it’s anything special… I’ve only viewed on my laptop. Sometimes I tilt the screen and it’s hard to read (normally when I’m ‘putering in bed and its an odd angle…) but other than that it’s readable. It’s definitely not Arial, but its readable!

Not in the Minneapolis area. But I just wanted to let you know that I really like your new blog page. For some reason, the old page, I couldn’t see your pictures when I looked at your blog at work. Ding dang firewalls. I had to remember to look at home. So, I’m really happy that I can see your pictures on your new blog.

That’s weird! I bet they blocked picasa photo albums – that’s where blogger photos live. I’m glad you like the new blog – I HATE when I’m looking at other people’s sites and can’t see the photos!!
